Acting AG Matthew Roll Statement

For Immediate Release

August 20, 2024

On behalf of the people of the office of Attorney General, I'd like to take the time and explain what happens next, following the resignation on Joshua Wallard as the 57th Attorney General of Mesa on Saturday and what my role will be going forward. First and foremost, Wallard's resignation means that I will serve as acting Attorney General. This means that I will have limited power to prosecute specific cases until the October 16 election. As of now, I want to announce that I will not be seeking election to become the 58th Attorney General Of Mesa during the 2024 Mesa Attorney General Election.

Furthermore, I will only serve as acting Attorney General Of The State Of Mesa until November 18, 2024, when both the Governor, Lt. Governor and elected Attorney General is sworn into office. At that point, I will step out of my role as Acting Attorney General.  Secondly, as I finish out the rest of Wallard's term as acting AG, I will only prosecute specific cases including: Fatal DUI cases, and lower level cases that involve this office. I will also investigate work place complaints. Cases that I will give to higher state courts, are murder cases, sexual misconduct cases and other cases involving ethics. This is being done to distance myself from any case that could be tainted by Wallard's corruption.

If any further statements are required, I will issue them under our Statements section of the menu.

Thank you,

Matthew Roll,

Acting Attorney General Of Mesa.
